    Registration is closed

The Lake Taupo Challenge draws a huge crowd of keen cyclists who are stoked to get 160km in the bag.

Some of our members need a bit more of a challenge so for those who are doing the longer events and want them recognized, this is what this is for.

Please note you will still have to pay any fees and abide by the Lake Taupo Challenge rule.

We can only homologate the 320km (Enduro)  events as a 300 km brevets.

Please refer to https://cyclechallenge.com/the-event/categories/on-road/ for details

Quiet roads and hardly any climbing through Southland.

This ride has been carefully timed to avoid tourist buses from Queenstown to Milford for the part of the ride that shares the road they use.

According to the internet all the buses will have past before the first rider joins that road. Te Anau is half way and a great place for coffee and a feed.

    Start and finish in Riverton.

You can see the sea where the blue cod live.
Fish and chips after the ride are not compulsory, but highly recommended.

    1690m climbing and descending.

The ride will make use of Telegram for checkpoints and safety communication. Instructions will be sent to all registered riders.

You’ve seen the Tour of Southland, now you can ride many of the roads and stages in one go.

The 400km ride starts and finishes in Riverton, with views of Foveaux Strait and the best Blue cod fisher in the world (oysters are not far away if that takes your fancy).

I’ve sought our quiet roads without too many hills as the ride steps up in distance.

Every year we hold this classic ride and with a bloody good reason:  Its a classic.  Its got everything a classic should have: long climbs - twisty technical descents, cafes, pies, quiet rural roads in blistering heat, dinner in Palmy (thats not really that epic but with 180km you'll think its amazing), followed by the sunset over Kapiti, and a little bump over a quiet mountain road to get back to Upper Hutt.

2 sets of lights and reflective jacket are essential.
