Ashhurst

Note this event is not planned to be run in 2024 although its a great option for a fun day out.

This is a very popular ride that starts and finishes in Asshurst.  We run three courses, so there is something for everyone: 65 km, 120 km and 240 km. The routes on this page are provisional, as sometimes we have to vary them depending on local road closures.

65 km Route

A great introduction to gravel riding with 40% gravel, 821 metres of climbing, and a max grade of 9.3%. Most people can complete this with minimum training on almost any bike. You'll need to be self-sufficient as there are no services on route. Most riders take between 3 to 6 hours to complete this route.

NOTE: Route updated December 23 due to road bridge damage on East Valley Road.

120 km Route

A step up from the 65 km route and winds its way up towards Apiti, where there is a pub at the 65 km mark where you can get something to eat and drink. 60% of this route is unsealed, and there are 1745 metres of climbing with max grades of 12.5%. Be prepared to be out all day as most riders take 5 to 10 hours to complete this route.

240 km Route

The 240 km route is a monster and should only be attempted by experienced riders. I think you will need to be prepared for riding in the dark. There are no services besides Awastone Camp and Cafe, which is 1 km off route at 113 km. 48% unpaved with 3713 metres of climbing and a max grade of 11.8%
