Description: A return to the Matamata region and the fast 400 / 600 courses. The courses have been updated based on the feedback from the December - January running. Mainly to get rid of the cruel 10km finish leg for the 400, and a swapping around of the loops for the 600 to allow a better middle point for a rest break.

All rides start and finish at the I-site visitor information centre: 45 Broadway, Matamata.

    400kms

The 400 km ride does an initial 170km loop up to Tahuna, and Orini and back to Matamata before finishing with a nice flat 231km run up to Kaiaua and back. Total climbing is 2,083 metres.

Start time is 6am, with a time limit of 27 hours (9am 10th March finish time).

    Checkpoints are:

    58kms: Tahuna

    169kms: I-Site Visitor Information Centre

    286kms: Kaiaua

    400kms: Finish - I-Site Visitor Information Centre.

    Purple Loop first, then Green.

    600kms

The 600km ride does an initial loop up to Tahuna, but continues on to Te Kauwhata, before passing down through Rangiriri and heading down the western side of the Waikato river to Ngarauwahia, before heading onto Orini and back to Matamata (259 km loop).

The second Loop heads up to Morrinsville before heading east to head back down to Matamata (106km loop), making a first day total of 365km.

The third loop is a flat run up to Kaiaua and back (236km loop). Total climbing is 3,700 metres.

Start time is 6am, with a time limit of 40 hours (10pm March)

    Check points are:

    114kms: Te Kauwhata

    259kms: Matamata

Every year we hold this classic ride and with a bloody good reason:  Its a classic.  Its got everything a classic should have: long climbs - twisty technical descents, cafes, pies, quiet rural roads in blistering heat, dinner in Palmy (thats not really that epic but with 180km you'll think its amazing), followed by the sunset over Kapiti, and a little bump over a quiet mountain road to get back to Upper Hutt.

2 sets of lights and reflective jacket are essential.
