About this ride
Why you should do this ride. It has a pub. Not just a pub though. The oldest pub in new Zealand (1826). It has the farthest North, Rail Tunnel in New Zealand. It also has the longest section of cycling boardwalk in New Zealand. And, you also ride past the longest grass strip airfield in the Southern Hemisphere.
A chance to ride the Far North Twin Coast ride. This ride follows the old railway line from Opua to Okaihau, with a finishing section to Horeke, on the Hokianga Harbour.
This ride is a 200km Brevet, and operates under the BRM Rules. The time-limit for a 200km Brevet is 13.5 hours.
It will be a challenge to complete this ride in the given time, but there is only one main hill to negotiate. This ride can be done on a bike with 25-28mm tyres. The track is hard and fast. Food stops available along the way include, Kawakawa, Kaikohe, Okaihau, and Horeke.
Start/Finish for this ride is at 7am / 8.30pm.
Checkpoints are at Horeke Tavern 86kms , Opua 200kms.
