Endurance Cycling in New Zealand

Welcome to Kiwi Randonneurs.

Endurance cycling is a popular pastime in New Zealand. Many organised “fun” rides are now including enduro versions featuring multiple laps of the same course for those wanting to test themselves beyond the traditional race distances.

Kiwi Randonneurs caters for those with a spirit of adventure who want to extend themselves and find their “edge”. The rewards are personal and extremely satisfying.

Kiwi Randonneurs offer long-distance, free-paced randonnees in NZ under the auspices of Les Randonneurs Mondiaux, the world-wide body. Randonneuring events are held in both North & South islands of New Zealand, and you will be made welcome when participating in our rides. Our rides are open to all reasonably fit riders including non-members and visitors from other regions who are most welcome to join our friendly and supportive participants.

Randonneuring is a long distance form of cycling in which riders attempt courses from 50km to many hundreds of kilometres or more, passing through predetermined “controls” (checkpoints). Riders aim to complete the course within specified time limits, and receive equal recognition regardless of their finishing order. The challenge is not in racing, but to complete the event at your own pace within the time limit. Riders may travel in groups or alone as they wish, and are expected to be self-sufficient between controls.

Randonneuring and long-distance cycling disciplines have a long history. You may like to read about more about the history of RandonneuringAudax and long-distance cycling on our history page.

I would love to hear more about Randonneuring opportunities. I finished two laps around lake Taupo on Monday <13 hours. I am seriously interested in Paris Bret Paris

      Hi Annetta,

The next PBP is in August 2015. To qualify you will need to complete a Super Randonneur series consisting of 200km/300km/400km and a 600km qualifying brevet between November and June 2015. We will be organising these rides and welcome you to join us on our rides.

    Hi Duncan,

Congratulations on getting Kiwi Randonneurs up and running with this great website.

It is with great regret that I wont be able to make it to the Kiwi Hunt. It was a hot topic at PBP, hopefully some of those will be inspired enough to make the trip.

Several years ago I remember seeing the 200, 300, 400 & 600 being run in a single week. My second regret is that I wasn’t able to take part in this either.

Hopefully I will be able to make it across the ditch and take part in one of your Randonnees very soon.

    All the best,

    Gareth
